Novel uses of recycled rubber in civil applications

Waste tyres and their accumulation is a global environmental concern, as 1.5 billion of waste are generated annually in the world. The products not biodegradable and, if disposed landfills stockpiles, recognized for leaching toxic chemicals into surrounding environment, acting breeding grounds mosquitoes, fueling inextinguishable fires. potential using rubber from worn many civil engineering works has been studied more than 30 years, application construction materials comprises cementitious concrete, asphalts, granulates earth structures. Recycling these field represents suitable way disposal both economic reasons. Therefore, aim this review to present state art tyre recycling applications. In particular, re-use cement-based discussed, then bituminous mixtures geotechnical applications reviewed. This mainly focused on physical properties when recycled incorporated, trying highlight effects deriving interaction between materials, analyzing proposed technological approaches material science perspective.
